Terms & Conditions
Terms governing use of the MurderXFile website, accounts and digital investigations.
Last updated: 7 October 2026
1. About us and these terms
MurderXFile is operated by Keerat Thethi trading as MurderXFile, a sole trader.
Business correspondence address: 65a Midland Road, Wellingborough, NN8 1HF, United Kingdom.
Email: contact@murderxfile.com.
These Terms & Conditions apply when you use the MurderXFile website, create or use an account, or purchase and access a MurderXFile digital investigation. By using the service, you agree to follow these terms. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
2. Accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to create or use a MurderXFile account. You are responsible for providing accurate account information, keeping access to your sign-in method secure and using your account lawfully. Case access is linked to the MurderXFile account used for the purchase. You may use your purchased investigation for private, non-commercial play by yourself or with other people playing together with you, but you must not share your account credentials or provide others with separate access to your MurderXFile account.
3. Purchases and access
Part 1 of every MurderXFile case is free to play as a guest or with a MurderXFile account. Guest progress is saved in the same browser for up to 90 days. An account is required to purchase a case and unlock its remaining Parts, subject to that case’s progression requirements. Starting or completing free Part 1 does not grant full-case ownership. Verified guest progress can transfer to an account that has not started the investigation; existing account progress is preserved. Progress remains linked to the purchasing account after purchase.
Prices are shown before checkout. MurderXFile investigations are sold as one-time purchases and are not subscriptions; no recurring charge applies unless a different purchasing arrangement is expressly stated before checkout. A purchase grants ongoing access through the purchasing MurderXFile account to the identified digital investigation, subject to these terms, and does not transfer ownership of MurderXFile content. Payments are processed using Stripe. For eligible purchases processed using Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe acts as Merchant of Record and provides payment-processing and related services, which may include applicable indirect-tax handling, fraud and dispute management and payment-related customer support. Access is normally added automatically after successful payment confirmation. If payment confirmation is delayed or an access problem occurs, contact MurderXFile support.
4. Digital-content cancellation and refunds
Different cancellation rules apply to digital content supplied online. Before receiving immediate access to a MurderXFile digital investigation, you will be asked to expressly consent to supply of the digital content beginning during the applicable 14-day cancellation period and to acknowledge that, once supply begins, you will lose your statutory right to cancel the purchase under that cancellation right. If you provide that consent and acknowledgement, access may begin immediately and the cancellation right is lost when supply begins. We provide confirmation of the purchase and this acknowledgement in a form you can keep, such as by email. This does not affect your statutory rights where digital content is faulty, not as described, not of satisfactory quality, not fit for a particular purpose where applicable, or otherwise does not conform to the contract. The Refund Policy forms part of these terms and explains how to report purchase, payment or access problems.
If immediate supply has not begun in circumstances where you retain a statutory right to cancel, that right remains available for the applicable cancellation period. Nothing in these terms or the Refund Policy limits any refund, repair, replacement, price reduction or other remedy that must be provided under applicable consumer law.
5. Personal-use licence
The same personal-use permissions and restrictions in this section apply to the free Part 1 materials for any MurderXFile case supplied to you, as a guest or through your account, including its printable pack and character profiles. Free access does not permit access to or sharing of the paid parts.
Unless MurderXFile expressly agrees otherwise in writing, your purchase grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the purchased investigation for your own private, non-commercial play, either alone or together with friends, family or other participants playing the same game with you. Access remains subject to sections 3, 8 and 11 of these terms.
You may download the supplied printable evidence packs and print the copies reasonably needed for that play. You may show the investigation materials to participants and privately share the supplied evidence packs, digitally or in print, with those participants solely for your game together. This permission does not allow them to pass the materials on or use them for a separate game without their own purchase or our written permission. Account credentials and separate account access must not be shared, as explained in section 2.
Except for the uses expressly permitted above, uses separately authorised by us in writing, or uses permitted by applicable law, you must not copy or reproduce the investigation materials; sell, resell, rent, sublicense or redistribute them, digitally or in print; publish or publicly upload them; make them available through public links, shared libraries or file-sharing services; or supply them to others for separate use. You must not repackage, adapt, translate or otherwise modify the materials for distribution, resale or other commercial exploitation, or use them to run paid games or other commercial activities.
These restrictions apply to the materials in whole or in part, including modified versions incorporating them. Nothing in this section limits your statutory consumer rights or any use that applicable law permits.
6. Fair use and security
You must not attempt to bypass payment or access controls, obtain protected case files through unauthorised means, probe or disrupt the service, interfere with another user’s account, automate abusive requests, or use MurderXFile systems for unlawful activity.
7. Intellectual property
All intellectual-property rights in the MurderXFile website and investigation materials, including branding, stories, text, artwork, evidence materials and software, remain with Keerat Thethi trading as MurderXFile or the relevant licensors or other rightsholders, as applicable. Your purchase grants only the personal-use licence described in section 5; it does not transfer ownership of those rights. Rights not expressly granted are reserved, subject to applicable law.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep purchased investigations available and working, but maintenance, security work, third-party outages or technical faults may occasionally affect access. We may make reasonable technical, security or presentation changes to the service, provided they do not unlawfully reduce your rights in purchased digital content.
9. Fictional content and use of digital tools
MurderXFile investigations are works of fiction created for entertainment. Unless expressly stated otherwise, characters, names, organisations, events and case materials are fictional. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or to actual events is coincidental and unintended. Some fictional imagery and visual assets may be created, enhanced or edited using generative AI and other digital tools. Detective scores, ranks and case outcomes are game features and are not professional assessments of the player.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded. Subject to that, MurderXFile is not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made, or for losses arising from unlawful or unauthorised use of the service. Consumer rights and remedies for faulty digital content remain unaffected.
11. Ending or restricting access
We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary for security, suspected fraud, serious misuse or a material breach of these terms. We will not use this clause to remove statutory rights relating to a valid purchase.
12. Customer reviews
Customers who have completed an investigation may be invited to submit a star rating and written review. Reviews may be moderated before publication, including to prevent spoilers, abuse, unlawful content, personal information or spam. We may reject or remove reviews for those reasons, but we do not promise to publish every submission. If you submit a review, you confirm that it reflects your genuine experience and that you have the right to submit its content. You grant MurderXFile a non-exclusive permission to display that review on the MurderXFile service. Editing an approved review may return it to moderation before it is displayed again.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. If you are a consumer, nothing in this clause removes rights you may have to bring proceedings in a court that applicable law makes available to you.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to MurderXFile, the law, security requirements or service providers. The date at the top of this page shows the latest revision. Changes will not retrospectively remove rights you already have under a completed purchase.
