How MurderXFile collects, uses and protects information when you use the website and investigations.
Last updated: 10 September 2026
1. Who we are
MurderXFile provides online murder-mystery investigations. For privacy questions or requests, contact contact@murderxfile.com.
2. Information we process
Depending on how you use MurderXFile, we may process account information such as your email address and account identifier; purchase and case-ownership information; investigation progress, hint usage, deductions, scores and completion status; messages you send to support; and technical information such as IP address, browser/device information, security events and request logs.
Payments are processed by Stripe. MurderXFile receives payment status and transaction or Checkout identifiers needed to confirm purchases, but does not receive or store your full payment-card number.
3. Why we use information
We use personal information to create and secure accounts, process and confirm purchases, unlock purchased cases, save and recover investigation progress, calculate investigation results, send transactional case emails, provide customer support, prevent abuse and fraud, maintain and improve the service, and comply with legal obligations.
4. Lawful bases
Where UK data-protection law applies, we generally process information because it is necessary to perform our contract with you (for example, account access, purchases and saved progress), because we have legitimate interests in operating, securing and supporting MurderXFile, because we must comply with a legal obligation, or because you have given consent where consent is required.
5. Service providers
MurderXFile uses specialist service providers to operate the service. These currently include Clerk for authentication and account services, Stripe for payment processing, Cloudflare for website hosting, security, storage and database infrastructure, and Resend for transactional email delivery. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy arrangements as applicable to the services they provide.
6. International processing
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we rely on the safeguards made available by the relevant provider and applicable law.
7. Cookies and similar technology
MurderXFile uses technology that is necessary for functions such as authentication, account sessions, security and purchase flows. Stripe may also use cookies or similar technology when you are taken to Stripe Checkout. MurderXFile does not currently run optional advertising or behavioural-analytics trackers on the website.
8. How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing account and purchased-case access, maintaining investigation progress, resolving support or security issues, and meeting legal, accounting or tax requirements. Retention periods can therefore vary by record type.
9. Your rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may have rights over your personal information, including rights to access, correct or erase information, restrict or object to certain processing, and receive certain information in a portable form. You may also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. These rights can be subject to legal limits and exceptions.
To make a privacy request, email contact@murderxfile.com. If you are in the UK, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
10. Security
We use access controls and third-party infrastructure designed to protect accounts, payments and investigation data. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to reduce unauthorised access, loss and misuse.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when MurderXFile changes or when legal or operational requirements change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
