Review Policy
How MurderXFile collects, checks, moderates and publishes customer reviews.
Last updated: 18 September 2026
1. Purpose of this policy
This policy explains how reviews published on MurderXFile are collected, checked, moderated and presented. MurderXFile aims to provide a fair and accurate picture of investigators’ genuine experiences and to prevent fake, misleading or otherwise prohibited review content.
2. Who can submit a review
Reviews submitted through the MurderXFile customer review system are restricted to signed-in investigators who have access to the relevant case and have completed it. Review eligibility is checked through the investigator’s account before a review can be submitted.
Each account may maintain one review for each case. A reviewer may update their review, but an updated review returns to moderation before it is published again.
3. Verified Investigator status
Where a published review is marked “Verified Investigator”, MurderXFile has checked through its account system that the reviewer had access to and completed the relevant MurderXFile investigation before submitting the review. The label does not mean that MurderXFile endorses the reviewer’s opinion.
4. Genuine reviews
Reviews must reflect the reviewer’s genuine experience and honest opinion of the relevant MurderXFile case. Fake reviews, reviews submitted on behalf of another person, fabricated experiences, impersonation and other deliberately misleading review content are prohibited.
MurderXFile does not require a review to be positive. Genuine, relevant and lawful reviews are considered under the same moderation standards regardless of their star rating or whether they praise or criticise MurderXFile.
5. Incentivised reviews
Reviews must not conceal any payment, free product or access, discount, gift or other benefit provided in connection with the review. MurderXFile does not permit concealed incentivised reviews. Where an incentivised review is published, the incentive must be made clear to readers so that the review is not presented misleadingly.
6. Moderation
Reviews are moderated before publication. Moderation is used to check authenticity and relevance, apply spoiler protection, and identify content that may be fake, misleading, unlawful or otherwise breach this policy. Positive and negative reviews are subject to the same standards.
A review may be rejected, withheld or removed where there are reasonable grounds to believe that it is fake or misleading; does not reflect a genuine experience; relates to the wrong product; contains unlawful content; contains personal information that should not be published; contains spam or unrelated promotional material; or otherwise breaches this policy. MurderXFile may also apply or correct a spoiler warning where appropriate.
A review will not be rejected, withheld, removed or delayed merely because it is negative or critical.
7. Spoilers
MurderXFile investigations depend on confidential story and solution information. Reviewers should avoid revealing major solutions, culprit identities or other material that could spoil an investigation for future players. Reviews may be marked as containing spoilers, and spoiler-related moderation may be used to protect other investigators.
8. Ratings and review information
Public review counts and average star ratings shown by MurderXFile are calculated from reviews that have passed moderation and are currently approved for publication. MurderXFile does not alter a reviewer’s star rating to improve the overall score.
If a published review is updated, it returns to moderation and may temporarily stop contributing to public review information until it is approved again.
9. Reporting concerns
If you believe a published review is fake, misleading, improperly incentivised, unlawful or otherwise breaches this policy, contact contact@murderxfile.com and identify the review and the reason for your concern. MurderXFile will consider reports and take appropriate action where necessary.
10. Reviews and complaints are different
A review is feedback about an investigator’s experience that is intended for publication. A customer-service complaint or request for help is handled separately. Leaving a negative review does not prevent you from contacting MurderXFile for support, and contacting MurderXFile for support does not prevent you from leaving a genuine review.
11. Changes to this policy
MurderXFile may update this policy when its review system, legal requirements or moderation processes change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
